DONNA SLADE

A person in a black jacket, blue jeans, and gray shoes sits on a ledge against a bright yellow background, looking down with hands clasped and casting a shadow on the dark ground.

‘PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES’

We see on a daily basis a lot of people judging eachothers opinions and behaviors. Every person is different in her thoughts, wishes, and dreams. We have different friends and different interests. The daily habits and environments play a very important role in how people behace or react to similar situations. For every type of behavior, there is a connection to how a person grew up, examples they had, what is really important to them, habits and how they developed their own beliefs.

Another important influence is education and professional formation. In school and professions, we learn practical things and theoretical knowledge but also develop a sense of cooperation and learn how to interact with eachother at different levels. We are a mix of different people and may not realize how strong we are onfuenced by professors, supervisors, or colleagues. There are situations, issues, problems, and conflicts that we all need to manage in daily life.

If we are able to see the whole person without judgement of cultural opinions or situations, listen and have empathy, we might see eachother in a different way.

ARTIST BIO: Working primarily in colored pencils I create contemporary realism works featuring a straightforward approach to representational art. Observing closely, I have a desire to capture and portray a series of objects and their physical appearance in reality.

Coming from a background in art direction, graphic design and illustration, I make use of dramatic lighting, strong composition and a full range of values. Working from dark to light with a process of applying 30-40 layers of color, I can produce a bold and vibrant painterly effect.
