We are the Music Makers!–in the Nicholson Gallery

NG_Oct14_MusicMakers

We are the Music Makers! will educate and engage viewers in the cultural history of Southern traditional music. The exhibit includes 30 panels – 28 of which feature photos and stories from Music Maker musicians. An audio component, accessed via the internet, provides audio and video to accompany each panel. The multi-media materials highlight southern traditional musicians, shining a light on their talent and raising questions of how poverty, geography, and age have limited the exposure of these artists, causing the widespread idea that the musical traditions they perform have “died out.”

Opening Reception: Friday, October 3rd, 6-8pm in the Nicholson Gallery, in conjunction with the 20th Anniversary Music Maker Blues Revue Concert and panel discussions. The exhibit will be on display October 1st through the 31st.

Selected Works By Moriah LeFebvre (2010-2014)–in The ArtsCenter’s Corridor

EAS_Oct14_MoriahLebvre

In this selection of mixed media paintings, Durham-based artist Moriah LeFebvre explored themes of movement, transience, and human relationship through her depictions of faces and figures in space. While working with different models in creating her work, the artist examined her subjects for something deeper than their physical appearance and individual presentation. She strove, beyond capturing their likenesses, to illuminate something essential and universal within her subjects. Moriah‘s artistic process involves many stages of layering, striping away, and re-layering, acrylic paint and a variety of media to create a rich sense of texture and raised relief.

Opening Reception: Friday, October 10th, 6-8pm in the Nicholson Gallery.  The opening reception coincides with the 2nd Friday ArtWalk. The exhibit will be on display October 1st through 31st.
