3038: THE BUSINESS OF CERAMICS
Instructor: Christopher Donald

Christopher Donald's bio

Sometimes “creative” people need a little help focusing on the drier aspects of being a studio artist.  This class will focus on what it takes to form a production ceramics studio.  We’ll cover the benefits of incorporating as a business, how to figure overhead costs, how to develop a product line, how to set up your studio, how to market your work and even how to keep from going crazy from spending most of your time alone making pots.  Many of the decisions you need to make as an artist are not creative decisions, but they greatly influence what type of work you can produce and allow you to cross that invisible line from “hobbyist” to “professional.”
