Missoula Children's Theatre Summer Camp Returns to The ArtsCenter

CARRBORO, N.C. – Missoula Children’s Theatre will be casting 60 local youth to participate in a production of The Tortoise Versus the Hare: The Greatest Race at The ArtsCenter this July. The program accepts rising 1st through 12th graders and no previous theatre experience is required.

The program begins with a group audition on Monday, July 23. Once roles are assigned, the cast rehearses for five afternoons and performs two public shows at The ArtsCenter on July 28, at 3:00 and 5:30 p.m.

This will be the eighth summer Missoula Children’s Theatre has brought their fast-paced, and very popular program, to The ArtsCenter. This year’s show features the well-known race between the tortoise and the hare as seen through the viewpoint of a TV news team. Through the rivalry displayed between the brown and green animals, the audiences will be reminded that “color is just a color – it’s just decorated skin.”

Early registration opened for ArtsClub members on Monday, January 30 and public registration opens on Monday, February 13. The cost for the half day program, including rehearsals as scheduled by the director during 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., is $150 for the public and $140 for ArtsClub members. For the afternoon rehearsals, plus a morning program of theatre games and skill building exercises, the cost is $300 for the public and $280 for ArtsClub members.

The ArtsCenter is a non-profit organization, located at 300-G East Main St., Carrboro, NC, that began over three decades ago as a single painting class. Currently serving more than 60,000 art professionals and amateurs each year, the mission of the ArtsCenter is to nourish the arts, creativity and community through education, performance and exhibition. The ArtsCenter is open from 11 am – 9 pm Monday through Friday and 11 – 5 pm on Saturday.
