ArtsCenter Stage Opportunities

There are many ways to be involved with ArtsCenter Stage from behind the scenes work, to ushering, acting and more.  Read below on how you can be involved with ArtsCenter Stage.

Volunteers
ArtsCenter Stage has a host of volunteer opportunities. We are always looking for volunteers to assist with technical production needs, marketing and design, ushering. If you have a love of theatre and want to join the community of volunteers, please email us or contact us at 919-929-2787 ext. 221.

Actors
Auditions are held throughout the year for specific shows and projects. Notices will be posted on this site. If you would like to join the mailing list for notices, please join The ArtsCenter's Mailing List and email us to be added to our Audition Notification Email List.

Designers
ArtsCenter Stage welcomes contact from Triangle set, lighting, costume, prop, puppetry and video designers as well as stage managers.  Please email us with area(s) of interest and production experience. 

Playwrights Roundtable
The roundtable is a play development lab run by and for playwrights. Its purpose is to encourage the creation, development, and production of plays by North Carolina writers. This lab group mounts at least one staged reading a year for a script by a local lab member, as well as hosting monthly meetings and readings. Membership is by referral or invitation. Full-Length Play Submissions
ArtsCenter Stage’s mission includes the development and production of new plays.

For consideration of a full-length script, please email letter of inquiry, a synopsis of your play, and a ten-page sample.

All material must be submitted electronically. If we would like to request the full script, we will contact you.

10 By 10 Play Festival Submissions

For our annual 10 By 10 Play Festival, a call for recent, ten-minute plays goes out in January prior to July productions.  Watch our website for announcements and email us and ask to be added to our 10 By 10 Play Submission Notification Email list.

10 By 10 Play Festival ANNOUNCING:
~The 2012 10 By 10 in the Triangle Festival play~

Over 900 plays were submitted for the 2011 10 By 10 in the Triangle. 
Submit your play starting in January join the fun with the 2012 10 By 10!

Submission Dates for the 2012 10 By 10 in the Triangle: January 9 - February 3, 2012.

A panel of judges will select plays to showcase in The ArtsCenter mainstage theatre July 5-22, 2012.

10 By 10 Submission Guidelines:
To submit a play for the 10 By 10 Play Festival, please email  (artscenterstage {at} artscenterlive {dot} org) us recent, 10-minute plays with minimal set requirements. Monologues are not accepted for submission.  Musical submissions are accepted, provided that they require little or no accompaniment.

Playwrights may submit up to two (2) plays. 
Plays MUST be submitted in standard format (Courier or 12 pt font) in Word or PDF.

Please send two separate emails for each play in the following format: (submissions not following these guidelines will not be accepted)

Submission Emails:

Email 1: The subject line of the email is the title of the submitted play followed by the words Contact Info. (For example: For the play "Poker Face," the email subject line would read Poker Face Contact Info.) The body of the email contains only the title page of the play with playwright contact information (including title of play, name of playwright, mailing address, email address, phone and website, if applicable). Please use the full title of the play as we often receive plays with similar titles.

Email 2: The subject line of the email and name of the attached file are the title of the play. (For example: For the play "Poker Face," the email subject line would read Poker Face and the attached file title would read Poker Face.) This file contains cast, set requirements, and script. NO CONTACT INFORMATION PLEASE.

If you are submitting two (2) scripts, please send four (4) separate emails. Please do not zip the files.

We will notify finalists by email and post those titles on our website.
We are sorry we cannot respond to each individual playwright.

The Award:
Playwrights receive an award of $100. Playwrights who attend our playwright gala on July 14 will also receive a $100 travel stipend.

The Space:
Our main stage is a 300-seat theatre with basic lighting and sound capabilities.

The Producer:
ArtsCenter Stage will provide directors, actors, designers, and technical staff for the festival. The directors will contact the playwrights at the beginning of the rehearsal process. For more about The ArtsCenter, visit our website.

The Dates:
Festival dates are July 5-22, 2012.

Playwright Gala:
July 14, 2012. Playwrights are invited to a Post-Show Discussion/Reception as well as an overnight stay at a local hotel or bed and breakfast on Saturday, July 14, 2012.

The Production:
Featuring an ensemble of 5 men and 5 women, all ten plays run every night on a unit set with flexible set pieces.
